so dimension of bigger brick = 3x2x2
so its surface area = 2(2x2+3x2 +3x2) = 32

total surface area of single block = 2(1x1+1x1+1x1) = 6
there are total 12 bricks smaller one
so total surface area = 12x 6 = 72

I think Question should be corrected: instead of asking "how much greater", should be put: "how much more"

and as shashank shown below, answer would be 72-32 = 40
