Profile Evaluation

by Vicky0110 » Mon Aug 24, 2009 9:44 pm
Hello Stacy, would you please evaluate my profile?

27 years old, Asian female, graduated from an Ivy League, double majored in History & English with an overall GPA of 3.5 and GMAT 710.

I currently work at a Fortune 100 Company in Online Advertising and Marketing.

What are my chances at the following business schools (to start Fall 2010)?

1. Harvard
2. Stanford
3. Stern
4. Columbia
5. Kellogg

I think it helps that I am female, but is that canceled out by the fact that I am Asian? Also, do you think it will be more or less competitive if I apply next year versus this year?

Thank you very much,
Vicky

Dear Vicky,

I think you have a competitive profile for your target schools based on the limited information you posted. It is important to have a mix of schools, so you might identify some safety schools that offer the curriculum you seek for your career goals. I don't think there will be a difference in competitiveness between this year and next, so if you feel you are ready to start in fall 2010, then you should apply now. Being Asian does not diminish the fact you are a woman; it is simply part of your profile. What will be important for you to gain admission will be conveying your rationale for business school and making a compelling case for a seat over applicants with a similar profile.

Best of luck,
Lisa
