c) the ailing mobster, famous because of “The Godfather,” came to take refuge in Corleone, a town near to those he most trusted
"the ailing mobster" is not famous...it is the town

d) near to those he most trusted, the ailing mobster came to take refuge in Corleone, a town famous because of “The Godfather”
"According to Italy's top anti-Mafia prosecutor" cannot modify "near"

e) Corleone, famous because of “The Godfather,” was the town that the ailing mobster came to take refuge in because it was near to those he most trusted
"it" refers to what "The Godfather" or mobster. If we replace it with either of "Godfather" or "Mobster", then both of them independently make sense. So IMO pronoun referent issue.

Does this make sense....he refers to whom ? godfather or mobster...im not convinced. Can u explain.the bolded part doesnt make a sense

This is quite an intriguing question. I picked [spoiler][D][/spoiler], because it correctly modifies "the ailing mobster" and "the town"

My question to those who are convinced that OA is [spoiler][A][/spoiler] is don't you think that "near to those he most trusted" incorrectly modifies town; instead the correct sentence- "near to those" must modify town, but "he most trusted" must modify the gangster.

Please throw some light :idea:

The stem of the question is to find out what is the subject over here.
Definately the subject over her is the ailing mobster not the town
Corleone.

So the question is about subject-verb agrement.
