when a triangle is inscribed in a cirle with diameter of the circle as one of the sides of the triangle, it will be a right angled triangle.
given that radius=1. so, diameter=2
one side=1
so by pythagorous, height of the triangle=sqrt3
and hence, area=sqrt3/2 which is B.

if you use pythogorous theorem to find the hypoteneuse AB..
then my understanding is
AB^2 = BC^2 + AC^2
= 2^2+1^2= Sq root 5 and not not sq root 3.

you can't tell the angle measurements here.
it is a right triangle for sure but the other two angles can be anything.
Of course given some other conditions you might find the angles.

The angle formation is 30, 60 and 90.
If a right angled triangle has sides in the ratio of 1, sqrt3 and 2, we can say that the angles are of 30 60 and 90 respectively.
For 1, 1 and sqrt2 right angled traingles, angles formed are 45, 45 and 90

I think I mistook crackgmat's question. I thought he was asking about the triangle shown in the circle. You can't say what shape it can take unless you have Other information.

my question is more generic -- if one of the sides of a right triangle is the diameter, what are the angel measures? is it always 30 60 90? or varies?
