In B, them refers to what?

This is one of those 'OH MY GOD' type questions.

Ill also go with E.

B and D are out because of subject-verb agreement. (The cow doesnt match them)

C: Provided and milking are not parallel.

Left with A and E.
A: 'providing them with feed, ...the cows are producing'---doesnt make sense.
plus this sentence states a fact. so 'are producing' is incorrect. While stating facts we use the base form of the verb. So 'will produce' is correct rather than 'are producing'.

E: parallel
keep them:
1. cool
2. provided
3. milked.
Plus this option correctly uses the base form of the verb 'will produce'

So E.

Mals,

Your explanation is perfect. Only thing i didnt understand was the "fact" part. how will be determine the fact part?

The way I eliminiated was as follows -

B and D is eliminated for Subject - verb agreement problem

the participle phrase provided...and milked...should be a modifier for cows


In A, it sounded that farmer took care of them to keep cool, by providing ....and milking...,holstein cows.

Same was the problem with C.

Hence I choose E.


Please explain me the fact part?

Well the sentence is stating a fact that if the farmers do A,B and C, the Holstein Cows will produce X liters of milk.
And all factual statements are supposed to be stated in base form of verb. So we choose 'produce' over 'producing'.

Well these are questions which when you see in the test you're first reaction is 'Oh my God, Im so doomed!!!' :). In simple words this was a pretty tricky and interesting question.
