What is xy/2 ?

(1) The sum of two legs is 15.

(x+y)=15 insuf

(2) The length of the hypotenuse is 12.[/quote]

x^2 + y^2= 144 insuf

together

(x+y)^2 = x^2 + y^2 + 2xy

(15)^2 = (144) + 4xANSWER [ stop here ]

logitech, a question:
does leg mean the two sides which are perpendicular to each other? or any side can be leg? otherwise your solution might be wrong, since if you count hypotenuse as one of the legs, you will have another area, hence E.

(you know i am not english speaking person, so it is a real question)
thanks.

I am not a native speaker either but I remember sitting in the classroom years ago and asking the same question to my prof.

He told me the same thing as you put:

LEGS ARE LEGS!
