I am having trouble deciding when it is more efficient to use smart numbers or set up an algebraic equation.

I would plug in.
Let hourly wage = 4.
Let hours worked = 5.
Pay = 5*4 = 20.
Increased wage = (1.25)*4 = 5.
Hours needed at increased wage = 20/5 = 4.
Decrease in hours = 5-4 = 1.
Decrease/Old hours = 1/5 = 20%.
The correct answer is
B.
