Value of x

If x+5>2 and x-3<7 the value of x must be between which of the following pairs of numbers?

A. -3 and 10

B. -3 and 4

C. 2 and 7

D. 3 and 4

E. 3 and 10

x+5>2 can be written as x > -3
x-3<7 can be written as x < 10

So answer should be (A)

Let's isolate x in each inequality.

x + 5 > 2

x > -3

Next we simplify x - 3 < 7.

x - 3 < 7

x < 10

We know that x is greater than -3 and less than 10.

Answer: A
