usage of "which" and proximity rule

by winnerhere » Sun Feb 20, 2011 7:02 pm
The sea shore of chennai, which is one of the longest in the world, is the major attraction to the tourists.

Here "which refers" to the sea shore - but its near Chennai. Is this construction correct on GMAT -

The sea shore of chennai, one of the longest in the world, is the major attraction to the tourists - Its right.

But is the first sentence right in contruction as the "which" proximity rule makes it look wrong.

Insights please :)

Thanks,
Sai

Use WHICH only to refer to the noun immediately preceding it - never to refer to an entire clause

Here WHICH refers to Chennai so... Chennai is one of the longest in the world??? sounds akward :/
Hope this helps!
