I am confused with some of the sentences that are related to subject-verb agreement. Please, if anyone can help me out, i will really appreciate.

The following sentences are:-

1. Two and two is/are four. (which one is correct ? Is or Are)

2. Four times four divided by two is/are eight.

3. Each and every student and instructor in this building hope/hopes for a new facility by next year.

4. The mayor together with his two brothers is/are going to be indicted for accepting bribes. (Please note there is no comma after mayor and after brothers)

5. Rice and beans, my favorite dish, reminds/remind me of my native Puerto Rico.
(What about this one ? I read somewhere that "and" creates a compound noun, which is always plural unless the compound noun is a unit).

I do remember some more examples such as fish and chips, strawberries and cream etc.. If anyone can give more examples....

Thanks & Regards
Vinni
