Possessive + Misplaced Modifier
The original sentence uses the correct modifier and uses the correct phrase 'that some blacks return to Africa.'

(A)Correct This is the best answer.
(B)Incorrect- There is a misplaced modifier. The use of the akward passive voice "symbolizing" incorrectly modifies "blacks return to the African land" rather than Africa.
(C)Incorrect- The referent of which is not clear and the sentence is wordy.
(D)Incorrect- The possessive Black's is incorrect. Since 'advocated' is a subjunctive, it should be followed by that.
(E) Incorrect-The possessive Black's is incorrect. Since 'advocated' is a subjunctive, it should be followed by that. There is a misplaced modifier. The use of the awkward passive voice "symbolizing" incorrectly modifies "black's return to the A land" rather than

Just look at the apostrophe on Blacks...you can tell it's wrong from that, so, D and E are wrong.
B is wrong because it changes the meaning to a specific African place, the one that symbolizes freedom (as opposed to the other one).
C is wrong...to Africa which was the land which...needs at least a comma.

CORRECT
Advocate is a subjunctive verb. A subjunctive verb in a sentence is usually constructed as follows:
Subjunctive +that + infinitive/basic form of verb


(B) that some Blacks return to the African land symbolizing the possibility of freedom to him
ELIMINATE. Symbolizing is the wrong form of verb. It is a continuous tense that is used to emphasise the ongoing nature of the action.
Simple tense is usually preferred to continuous/progressive tense.


(C) that some Blacks return to Africa which was the land which symbolized the possibility of freedom to him
ELIMINATE
Since "advocate" is a subjunctive verb, it should be followed by "that" and NOT "WHICH" See Explanation in Choice A above

(D) some Black's returning to Africa which was the land that to him symbolized the possibility of freedom
ELIMINATE
Black's - possessive pronoun....meaning of the sentence changed.
Returning - wrong form of verb


(E) some Black's return to the land symbolizing the possibility of freedom to him, Africa
ELIMINATE
See explanation D

Subjunctive structure :

command verb + that + subject

We propose that the school board disband. ( MGMAT SC)

E is wrong because of the possessive case - some black's and due to misplaced modifier.
We would never write : The largest mammal, whale, is.....
We would rather write : Whale, the largest mammal, is....

D - "requiring" is wrong usage here
"which was a land that...." should be after a comma.

C - same comma is missing. When we start a modifier with which, its a non essential one, so we should use comma. Moreover the way the two which phrase is used is really ugly.

B - symbolizing the possibility of freedom to him : is not what the original sentence means. It changes the meaning of the sentence. It is modifying the whole action of "black american return to African land".

A - the land that, to him, symbolized....
i could't find any specific error in this sentence but i feel something is wrong here and I haven't seen such construction in OG-12.

What is the OA ?

IMO the essence of the sentence is that: The controversial black leader considers some Black folks to go to Africa. The land of Africa symbolizes the possibility of freedom to him.

B. Awkward construction and meaning is changed- some blacks returning to Africa symbolizing possibilty of freedom to the leader.
C. Awkward Construction + meaning(which was the land which symbolized the possibility of freedom to him) This actually means the African land is no longer a symbol for the possibilty of freedom to the leader.
D. E. Meaning is changed.
