Every employee EITHER has 1+ years of work experience OR has <1 year.
For an EITHER/OR group problem, we can use a GROUP GRID (also known as a double-matrix) to organize the data.
In a group grid, the entries in any given row or column must add up to the TOTAL of that row or column.
Let the total number of employees = 100.
20 percent of all employees have one year or more of experience and no advanced degree.
Here is the grid:
The question stem asks for the percentage of employees who have advanced degrees and less than one year of experience (represented in the grid by a question mark).
Statement 1: 35 percent of the employees do not have advanced degrees and 55 percent have less than one year of work experience.
Entering 35 into the bottom box of the middle column and 55 into the rightmost box of the second row, we get the following grid:
Thus, the percentage who have advanced degrees and less than one year of experience = 40.
SUFFICIENT.
