First of all, I would like to thank all the contributors to this site. I have really gained a lot from beatthegmat resources.
I believe my success in GMAT is indeed a unique story and so would like to share the same.
I gave my first GMAT in July 2008 - Got a 640 (V28. Q50) - I had not studied for the exam much and so I thought that I could do much better if I studied. I prepared, gave the GMAT again in July 2009 and got a 700 (V33, Q50). Given the effort that had gone into this, I was really unhappy with my score. I gave up and assumed 700 to be my final score.
However, something within me was disturbing me. I felt that I could do much better. So, I used to give GMAT mock tests whenever I felt that I had some time. I used to get around 720 ~740. However, I thought that the real test conditions were more tough and started to analyse the differences between the real test setting and my test setting at home. I made one interesting observation. At home, I used to give my exam in a relaxed mood, unlike that in the exam center. So, I made up my mind to appear for the GMAT exam again.
I registered for the exam on 11th December and took a date for the 18th December slot. I had decided that I would not study for this GMAT - I wanted to be very relaxed and give the GMAT as one of my mock tests. However, I brushed up the concepts again but did not really push through much.
The test date came - The essays and Q section, as always, were fine - Then came the dreaded verbal section - I told to myself - This is one of my mock tests - I will be cool - That worked....I enjoyed the 75 minutes of verbal section - Strangely enough, I found that I had 15 minutes left for the last 3 questions - I was a bit worried - Is it because I went through very fast ? Not sure of the answer, I started to focus on getting the three questions right. Unknowingly, I was getting a bit unrelaxed and it took me more than 8 minutes to solve one CR question. I again said to myself - hey - relax - and it worked again - I was able to finish the exam with one minute remaining.
Then the score popped up - A whopping 740!!!!
I was happy the entire day and even went to Casino yesterday to celebrate my GMAT success.
