The single family house constructed by the Yana, a native american people who lived in what is now Northern California, was conical in shape, its framework of poles overlaid with slabs of bark, either cedar or pine and banked with dirt to a height of three to four feet.

A.
B. banked with dirt as high as that of
c. banked them with dirt to a height of
d. was banked with dirt as high as
e was banked with dirt as high as that of.

IMO A.

The original sentence tells 2 things about the framework of poles 1) overlaid with slabs of bark and 2) banked with dirt

The use of "was" in option D and E is unnecessary and makes it awkward.
In Option C, has problem with pronoun reference
In option B, "as high as that of" creates an impression of comparison. But we are not comparing anything in the original sentence.

Hence option A looks correct to me.

What is the OA?

i vote for D because "was" makes the sentence clearer

I believe the answer should be A because, the words 'banked with dirt' refers to 'frame work of poles '.

If we use 'was' here, then the words 'Was banked with dirt' would refer to single family house which is incorrect.
