Cellular service providers with wireless internet (wifi) technology provide service that only cell phones with wifi capabilities can support. Between 2003 and 2005, the number of wifi providers in Raskan increased from 50 to 400. However, since the number of wifi cell phones in Raskan was approximately the same in 2005 as in 2003, the number of Raskanians able to access the service probably did not increase significantly.

Which of the following is an assumption on which the argument depends?


(A) Few if any of the wifi providers that began operating in Raskan after 2003 provided service to individuals with wifi cell phones living in regions not previously served by wifi providers.

(B) In 2005 most Raskanians who lived within a region served by a wifi provider already had a wifi cell phone.

(C) Equipping a service provider with wifi technology does not decrease the size of the area served by the provider.

(D) In 2005 Raskanians who did not own wifi cell phones could not access any types of service provided by the wifi providers that began operating in Raskan after 2003.

1. The number of wifi providers increased between 2003 and 2005
2. The number of wifi phones did not increase between 2003 and 2005
3. The number to access the service must not have increased

A. Correct. The assumption that the author makes is that the people who had wifi capable phones lived in areas where providers offered wifi service or that the new providers do not offer service in those areas now. If they lived in other areas and the new providers moved into those areas then more people would have had access to the services in 2005 than in 2003 despite the number of phones not being greater.

B. Incorrect. This is just telling us that people living in an area that a provider operates in in have a wifi cell phone. It doesnt tell us if they had service in 2003 or not.

C. Incorrect. This has nothing to do with more people not being able to access the service

D. Incorrect. We only care about people with wifi cell phones. We already know that people without them cant access the wifi services.

E. Incorrect. This might be a reason for people to switch providers, but it has nothing to do with the number able to access the services.

i am between A and D but i think i will choose D..
the question here we care is whether the number of people accessed Wifi increased ( with or without a cell phone). if the number of people are still able to access Wifi without a cell phone, clearly it weaken the conclusion saying that the number of people able to access the wifi decrease....
whats the answer and its explanation?

Between 1994 and 1996, the number of RDS radio stations in Verdland increased from 250 to 600. However, since the number of RDS-equipped radios in Verdland was about the same in 1996 as in 1994, the number of Verlanders receiving the special program information probably did not increase significantly.

a. few if any of the RDS radio stations that began broadcasting in Verdland after 1994 broadcast to people with RDS-equipped radios living in areas not previously reached by RDS stations.
b. In 1996 most Verdlanders who lived within the listening area of an RDS station already had a radio equipped to receive RDS.
c. Equipping a radio station with RDS technology does not decrease the station’s listening area.
