Although the company's founders certainly hoped that incorporating would increase their profit margin, no one, not even the founders, didn't expect that the value of the stock would appreciate so quickly.

A) no one, not even the founders, didn't expect
B) no one, not even the founders, expected
C) nobody, not even the founders, expected
D) nobody, not even the founders, didn't expect
E) no one, even the founders, expected

can somebody explain why B is better than C

No one is more formal than nobody. I think that this is the only difference.

I received a PM asking for my input on this question. :) Unfortunately this is not a great question in terms of representing the real GMAT for a few reasons:

(a) you can't actually choose between no one and nobody in this context - both are fine, they are synonyms, so the GMAT will never test this (they have never even noted a preference for one relative to the other)...

(b) I've never seen a GMAT question test an obvious double negative like in this question (i.e. "no one didn't expect"). Maybe the TOEFL or a test for younger students, but not the GMAT...

(c) I have also never seen a GMAT question utilize a contraction ("didn't" rather than "did not")...

I really hope this helps!
:)

Thanks Whit,
was badly shaken up after giving this gmatclub verbal test.
I had heard that the test was very tough, indeed it was tough...but had few wrong questions in it.
(https://www.beatthegmat.com/tough-gmatcl ... 73583.html and a few more)
I am glad that I did not invest too much time/energy/money in it.
Thankfully to experts like you!
