OA after some discussion
I received a PM asking me to comment.

I wouldn't worry about this question. The differences among the answer choices do not reflect what you'll be facing on the GMAT. What is the source?

Hi All,

Need some clarification on this...It appears OA is A. I have my doubts...I think E is correct.

COMMA+VERB-ED modifies immediately preceding noun. I don't think the statement intends to say brain is located behind the ear.

Henry,

Consider the "specific part of the brain" as a whole and not the "brain" alone.

Hi Karthik,

Thanks...actually I found the answer. The located actually modifies "Specific Part" and not the brain itself. Hence Choice A is correct.

In surprising medical news, scientists investigating long-term effects of stroke are reporting that injury to a specific part of the brain, located behind the ear, can instantly and permanently break a smoking habit.

"Of the Brain" can be ignored...
