In a chain of 40 restaurants, 29 offer lunch menus, and 18 offer dessert menus. How many of the restaurants offer neither a lunch menu nor a dessert menu?

14 of the restaurants offer both a lunch menu and a dessert menu.
33 of the restaurants offer either a lunch menu or a dessert menu or both.

D

Pretty easy question.

But, I had to use venn for statement II. I dont like Venns. Can someone tell me how to put statement II in the matrix ?
Cheers !!

Hi,
Statement(2) gives A U B. You are asked to find complement of (A U B). So, why do you need any method to do this. I don't know what you mean by matrix method. Is it the tabular form / grid method?
Cheers!

Here's the setup with the given information:

____D___~D
_L:_?____?___29
~L:_?____?__11
___18___22

Statement 1: this gives us the value of the top-left box, which allows us to complete the table - SUFF
Statement 2: if 33 restaurants offer either a lunch menu or a dessert menu or both, then the 7 remaining restaurants offer neither lunch nor dessert - SUFF

yup its the grid method. I learnt it in Manhattan WP guide and it usually solves all the problems.
I know this is the case of simple AUB but wanna see how this solution would work by the grid method.
Cheers !!
