Consider the following sentence: I asked my daughter to eat her dinner. "To eat" functions as a verb here, though not the main verb of the sentence. ("My daughter to eat her dinner," is clearly not an independent clause.) If I wanted, I could modify "to eat." For example: I asked my daughter to eat her dinner dinner slowly. Thanks Dave for the valuable suggestion! Smile
Actually this doubt arose because I thought "INFINITIVE CAN'T ACT AS MAIN VERN IN A SENTENCE".
