Calories consumed in excess of those with which the body needs to be provided to maintain its weight are normally
stored as fat and the body gains weight. Alcoholic beverages are laden with calories. However, those people who
regularly drink two or three alcoholic beverages a day and thereby exceed the caloric intake necessary to maintain
their weight do not in general gain weight. Which one of the following, if true, most helps to resolve the apparent
discrepancy?
A. Some people who regularly drink two or three alcoholic beverages a day avoid exceeding the caloric intake
necessary to maintain their weight by decreasing caloric intake from other sources.
B. Excess calories consumed by people who regularly drink two or three alcoholic beverages a day tend to be
dissipated as heat.
C. Some people who do not drink alcoholic beverages but who eat high-calorie foods do not gain weight.
D. Many people who regularly drink more than three alcoholic beverages a day do not gain weight.
E. Some people who take in fewer calories than are normally necessary to maintain their weight do not lose weight.

OA after some discussions.

IMO B.

ppl who consume 2/3 alc bvg exceed caloric intake but doesn't gain wght

A. Out of scope - Arg is about ppl who drink and exceed caloric intake but these ppl never cross the limit.
B. Provides a reason for excess calories which doesn't add to the weight.
C. Irrelevant
D. Out of scope - Arg is about ppl who consume 2/3 bvg a day
E. Irrelevant.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

IMO B is the correct answer

in option A it is stated "by decreasing caloric intake from other sources. " but in the question or paragraph, it is not stated anywhere about the other sources to get the low calories to balance with the high calories. So this option is irrelevant.

Option B is giving the perfect reason of burning the extra calories. But dont forget to note that Alcohol have laden of Calories so the extra calories is burnt/ wasted or dissipated by heat.

I hope u are clear about this question now

A tough fight between A and B, and the winner is B

A. Some people who regularly drink two or three alcoholic beverages a day avoid exceeding the caloric intake necessary to maintain their weight by decreasing caloric intake from other sources. - The sentence speaks about 'some' and not all people, so......

FACT 1: Excess calories normally cause weight gain.
FACT 2: People who regularly drink 2-3 alcoholic beverages a day and exceed their caloric needs do not gain weight.

PREDICTION: The drinkers possess a unique quality that explains why they do not gain weight.

Answer choice B explains how the calories consumed by drinkers differ from those consumed by non-drinkers: Excess calories consumed by people who regularly drink two or three alcoholic beverages a day tend to be dissipated as heat.

The correct answer is B.

Answer choice A does nothing to resolve the discrepancy: whereas the passage is about drinkers who EXCEED their caloric needs, A is about drinkers who AVOID exceeding their caloric needs. Apples and oranges.

One more thing: be skeptical of an answer choice that includes SOME. How many is SOME? SOME could be as a few as one or two. Such a small sampling will have little effect on a CR.

The correct one is B. A is wrong. Although drinker avoid intake calories from other sources, drinking still excesses the calories needed for daily, referring to the argument which said that.
