Please lift off the suspense and tell us the OA.

I am really confused between 'B' and 'D'.

'As much ... as' is the correct construction (rules out 'A' and 'E').
I find 'C' a bit wordy.
Between 'B' and 'D' i'll go for 'D'.

Would appreciate if somebody can explain how the meaning changes when 'now' is placed at the end of the phrase 'generated through wind power' rather than at the beginning.

IMO B. the idiom seems correct here.

You may use 'as was the case' for something like "People use more public transportation today than driving on their own, as was the case in 1990".

Bumping this up because of a silly question in my mind:
Can "it" only refer to a singular noun? can it not refer to an idea?
