Mark can paint twice as fast as Joe. If Mark starts to paint at one end of a mile-long wall and Joe starts to paint at the other end of the wall, how far away from Mark's end of the wall will they meet?

A. 3/4 mile
B. 2/3 mile
C. 1/2 mile
D. 1/3 mile
E. 1/4 mile

The OA is B.

I need help to solve this PS question. Please, can anyone assist me? Thanks in advance.

Mark can paint twice as fast as Joe.

So, for every 1 foot of wall that Joe paints, Mark can paint 2 feet of wall.
In other words, for every 3 feet of wall that the two man paint TOGETHER, Joe moves 1 foot and Mark moves 2 feet.
Generally speaking, for every x feet of wall that the two man paint TOGETHER, Joe moves 1/3 of x and Mark moves 2/3 of x

So, if the two man can paint 1 mile of fence TOGETHER, then Joe moves 1/3 of a mile, and Mark moves 2/3 of a mile.

Answer: B

Since Mark is twice as fast as Joe, he must have painted â…” mile of the 1-mile long wall and Joe must have painted â…“ mile when they meet. So their meeting point is â…” mile from Mark's end.
