To support the claim of the team's manager, a statement that will prove that the team's performance put them among the top teams in the country seems perfect.
Premises: The team's general manager of a local college was fired because the women's volleyball team came fifth in its division.

OPTION A - INCORRECT
If this is true, then it cannot fit into the fact that the team finished fifth in its division. This seems to contradict the argument even more.

OPTION B - INCORRECT
What happened a year before is irrelevant to this line of argument.

OPTION C - INCORRECT
If this is true, it shows a hitch that doesn't support the claim that the team's performance put it among the top teams in the country.

OPTION D - CORRECT
Finishing fifth out of 80 teams in the volleyball team's division really puts the team among the best in the country. This not only supports the manager's claim but also gives a good reason to sue the college.

OPTION E - INCORRECT
Whether or not the team lost more games this year and the one before does not help to resolve the apparent contradiction.
