Point to understand before diving into the question
The women volleyball team finished 5th but remember that there might be many teams that contested for the tournament and thus, finishing 5th might not be a bad ending. Now let's see the options..

Option A:- Incorrect
The questions is not about the away games played in the course of the competition but rather of how they finished.

Option B:- Incorrect
The manager was not fired due to low attendance to match days, this option does not follow suit.

Option C:- Incorrect
The members or players of the team were not discussed at all so this is not the bottom base of the discussion.

Option D:- correct
This might be a reason why the General Manager sued the Team, in a competition where 80 teams contested, coming 5th is not a failure and he doesn't expect to be fired, that was why we went as far as saying the team performance improved.

Option E:- Incorrect
Lost or no lost of games, this wasn't discussed in the statement at all and they were still able to finish 5th.
