Do we need to take into consideration the rules regarding usage of "compare to" and "compare with" while solving GMAT SCs.
Few days back I downloaded "Spidey's SC notes" uploaded by Eric.
According to these notes,
Compare usually takes the preposition to when it refers to. the activity of describing the resemblances
between unlike things
AND
Compare takes with when it refers to the act of examining two like things in order to discern their
similarities or differences:


But according to MGMAT,
"compared to" and "compared with" are equivalent idioms from the point of view of the GMAT; either is correct.

I think I should follow MGMAT and ignore usage of compare to,compare with.

I'll add that Garner's Modern American Usage supports the assertion that "compared to" is only for similarities.
