The investigations of many psychologists

by dongkim2 » Thu Mar 11, 2010 1:05 am
The investigations of many psychologists and anthropologists support the generalization of there being little that is a significant difference in the underlying mental processes manifested by people from different cultures.

A of there being little that is a significant difference
B of there being little that is significantly different
C of little that is significantly different
D that there is little that is significantly different
E that there is little of significant differences

OC: D

generalization should be followed by that, generalization of is unidiomatic. Down to D and E, E is just horribly phrased and changes the original meaning. We are not trying to say that "Significant Differences" were little, we are trying to say that there was little that was significantly different. Hence D wins

There is little that is adverb significantly is better than singificant so E and A can be ruled out.
In C it appears the generalization is 'of little that is different.
The choice to consider are B and D. Avoid the use of 'being' in GMAT. So D is the best option.

I'm not sure I understand why "that" is required after "generalization." Is it because what comes after "of/that" is not a noun, but a phrase?

A of there being little that is a significant difference wordy + awkward
B of there being little that is significantly different wordy + awkward
C of little that is significantly different doesn't make sense "the generalization of little"
D that there is little that is significantly different correct
E that there is little of significant differences wrong idiomatic use --> little of x (x should be singular) but differences is plural. So few should be used.

OC: D

Not directed at you, but rather at someone else who posted the comment without citing source.
