The importance of Context & Quick Fix

by Night reader » Fri Oct 29, 2010 6:01 pm
Hello. May be I should have posted this topic in GMAT strategy or Verbal subsection. While drilling into advanced concepts of Critical Reasoning I have come across some paradox which could be described as "Beat the GMAT Dot COM" doing bad service for its reader population. For one, it completely deludes people who fail in their assessments of the importance of Context (re Evaluation of Reasoning/Conclusion). Another issue is related to people, who exhibit wishful thinking, so mankind by its nature, and demand Quick Fix (re General assumptions e.g. legitimates Conclusion for flawed Arguments) solutions from the BTG experts and high scorers.

The importance of Context stems from our whereabouts and situation as the whole. Tech guys, math gurus, wunder kids - all gather and not boastfully give debriefs and narrate stories of beating GMAT. So people reading the BTG posts who are not in the category just mentioned are being deluded. The Context is different here.

Quick Fix is something that would be offered as a fast and easy solution to a complex problem. Examples of Quick Fix are the BTG posts from the series of How to crack the GMAT in one-, two-, three-month periods with different study plans and materials. I found these hopes for a Quick Fix in some way responsible for the BTG readers' low scores.
