Quiz 3 is now ONLINE. This is the 3rd quiz in the series of the SC question banks that we will be releasing in near future. The quiz contains 5 questions and should not take more than 10 minutes to complete. These quizzes contains GMAT like Sentence Correction questions and cover all primary error types. Its a great way to benchmark your preparation.

This quiz is timed and will end after 12 minutes.

If you have created an account in the past, then it will still be valid.

why am i not able to see my score?
At the end of the questions, i get a feedback screen and the quiz restarts after that.
I would like to see my score.

Did u submit ?
Even i got score and a feedback screen after submitting it. Once u submit u will get review screen where u can see right and wrong answers. I got 4 correct with 80 score. So each question carries 20 marks with no -ve marks for incorrect ones.

Same thing happen with me. Please check whether you provided the feedback. If not then you will not see score. To see score you need to submit the feedback.

Fibo,u wuld have not submitted the feedback or else forgotten to submit alltogether!!

BTW i got 80% hehehhe and the mistake i di was very silly..the one that asked abt the president theodre roosevelt(usage of past tense & past perfect tense)

On the whole..It was like GMAT SC...

To All who gave the test :

The question : "The relaxed rules for health claims allowed supplement marketers to target messages to the specific concerns of the 80 million "baby boomers" who, as they reached middle age, became even more interested in self-care, distrustful of conventional medicine, and more resentful of the increasingly impersonal nature of the managed health care system.

the correct answer says :

>became even more interested in self-care, more distrustful of conventional medicine

My question :

Does the non-underlined part anyhow conveys that they were distrustful before ? How can we add "more" before distrustful ? Doesn't it change the meaning ?


IMO "distrustful of conventional medicine" is a parallel element in itself and is correct. As far as logical ||ism is concerned, I think that there is some ambiguity here. We cannot be sure that they were distrustful before and became "more distrustful" after.

I know that the quiz wanted to test ||ism here, but this addition of an extra word changes the meaning.

Sentence

Although President Theodore Roosevelt claimed that he did not need Secret Service
protection, he later revolted against the congressional action, which denied political entities
the use of the government's best enforcement agents.

Choice A
Although President Theodore Roosevelt claimed that he did not needed Secret Service protection,

Choice C
Although President Theodore Roosevelt had claimed that he did not need Secret Service protection,

Choice A = Simple Past Tense for Verb - Claim
Choice C = Past Perfect Tense for Verb - Claim


We know that Past perfect tense is used only when the other information in the sentence does not clarify the sequencing of related events that occur at different time in the past.

Firstly, the 2 events - President claimed & he revolted are related. Both events occur in the past and at different times. Claimed happened first and revolted happened next. Thus use of past perfect tense for the verb claim may be correct.

However, the word "later" in the non-underlined portion of the sentence, clarifies this sequence of events and hence we do not need to use past perfect tense.

And hence Choice A is correct.

rsadana1 Thank for the explaination. SO if the word "later" was not there we could have use the past perfect tense "had Claimed"
