The artist Renoir's last word was "flowers," spoken as they arranged a bouquet of roses just picked from his garden in a vase on his bedroom windowsill.
A. as they arranged a bouquet of roses just picked from his garden
B. as a bouquet of roses had been just picked from his garden and was being arranged
C. as a bouquet of roses just picked from his garden was being arranged
D. during the arrangement of a bouquet of roses just picked from his garden
E. while they arranged a bouquet of roses that had just been picked from his garden

These kind of SC is like a nightmare for the people because the choices contain all those words which we normally ignore...anyways try this one...

IMO : C I know it usages being but still this is best among all in my opinion..

also vote for C, my reasoning
a) they here has the only antecedent-flowers, and so it comes that they (flowers) arranged themselves.perhaps passive voice were arranged is better here
e) the same problem with they, and also the ussage of while creates ambigiuty
at the same time as, or in the meaning although
d) do not see any mistakes except stylish, it is wordy
b) had been just picked from his garden and was being arranged seems not ||

IMO- C
A. as they arranged a bouquet of roses just picked from his garden (incorrect- They??)
B. as a bouquet of roses had been just picked from his garden and was being arranged (incorrect- had been...and was)
C. as a bouquet of roses just picked from his garden was being arranged (best of the lot)
D. during the arrangement of a bouquet of roses just picked from his garden(during the arrangement- changing meaning)
E. while they arranged a bouquet of roses that had just been picked from his garden (incorrect- They??)

IMO C.

A, D and E OUT == > wrong meaning conveyed == > ... his garden in vase ...
B OUt == > Had been just == > if it was had been how it can be just ?
