Here, we take a look at the plethora of options in order to ascertain which is the most suitable.
OPTION A - INCORRECT
This statement in this option offers next nothing compared to what we understand paraphrase to be. It's just a mere lifting of the word statement from the passage.

OPTION B - INCORRECT
When there is absence of a demonstrative pronoun the verb that follows must add "s" like "accounts" to make it appear in the present continuous tense. Also, the verb "contributes" in general this option has failed the paraphrase test.

OPTION C - INCORRECT
This statement looks so simplistic but it's part are not in agreement with each other for instance, the latter part could have been simplified with a present tense "they work"

OPTION D - CORRECT
This is a new concept and direction as a way of paraphrasing the whole underlined statement to retain its meaning but with different write-up. It appears the most correct.

OPTION E - INCORRECT
Here, this would easily have passed as my most suitable but for some missing parts. The account could have added "s" to make it agree with the verb " contributes". Such a big miss.
