Hi,

Is there a general rule for terminating decimals? How can we identify them?

First, make sure that the fraction is in its simplest form.

The denominator of a terminating decimal must only contain factors of 2's or 5's.

trying using 4 or 5

by raka3399 » Mon Aug 10, 2009 3:58 am
Hi ,

Any integer when divided by 4 or 5 results in terminating decimal.

the possibility for division by 4 are limited and are .25, .5 and .75

the possibility for division by 5 are 0.2,0.4,0.6,0.8

needless to say that 4 and 5 can divide an interger evenly as well ,leaving behind no remainder otherwise the possibilities are mentioned above

Does "finite" decimal mean the same?

Thanks,
