A recent survey regarding the use of the

A recent survey regarding the use of the Internet by the nation's top business leaders found that nearly ninety-five percent of them are subscribed to business-related RSS feeds, almost the same as the number of those who have subscriptions to The Wall Street Journal.

1. the same as the number of those who have subscriptions to
2. similar to the number who subscribe to
3. equivalent to those who have subscriptions for
4. as much as the number of those who subscribe to
5. as much as are subscribed to

my doubt : i know that "percentage" is un countable and hence "much" can be used for it but i feel that here "ninety-five percent of them" is referring to people ,which in fact is countable so isn't th usage of "as much as" wrong here ?

I totally agree. The "are subscribed" also shows that we are talking about people in the plural. So I would stick with A, which though wordier that E, does not suggest that the uncountable noun 'percentage' could have subscriptions to a journal.

A seems to compare percentage with number.
Could you pls comment on that.
I eliminated A coz of that.

Percentage is always a singular. But here they use percent, which takes its cue from the "second noun," so to speak.

Example: 65 percent of people eat fast food at least once a month, but only 30 percent of the soup was eaten today.

In E, HOW MANY leaders ARE subscribed to RSS feeds is being compared to HOW MANY leaders ARE subscribed to The Wall Street Journal.
Much cannot serve to refer to HOW MANY leaders ARE subscribed.
Eliminate D and E.
