Optimal strategy to go from 730 to 770?

by nmlss » Tue Mar 20, 2012 11:10 pm
What would be your strategy to go from 720-730 (estimated by GMATPrep) to 770 in exactly one month? Not full time, unfortunately, only in evenings and in weekend? I know it is ambitious but at least I want to try to improve as much as I can.

But what should I do? Review dozens of my notes with mistakes I made before (most of them because of missing some minor thing), practice more tests or solve more advanced problems?

I am non-native speaker but my Quant & Verbal scores are balanced: 48 & 42 correspondingly.

I already went through all 8 Manhattan Guides & Official guide and solved most of the problems there. Then, I just took GMATPrep twice.

Thank you very much for your help!

If you're already scoring at the 730 level, then you already have a strong grasp on the material.
At this point, your barrier to 770 can be one of (or a combination of) several things:
- time management (you waste time on some questions, leaving you with insufficient time to answer questions you could have answered with enough time)
- carelessness (you could have answered the question, but you made a small error somewhere, or you misread the question)
- content gaps (there are some concepts that you still need to strengthen)

At this point, you really need to analyze your tests (with a magnifying glass) to identify the issue(s) that are preventing you from scoring 770+

I hope that helps.

Cheers,
Brent

Thank you very much for your advice!

I already try to analyze all my mistakes and improve on them. Honestly, most of them are just "silly mistakes" caused by me not being attentive enough.

I think I should get more real practice. I am currently planning to take MGMAT and GMATClub tests because they are usually referred to as more or less advanced. Do you think this is the right choice?
