Every year, Indian School of Business (ISB) rejects literally thousands of applicants seeking to gain admission to its prestigious PGP program. While many of those rejected know that they didn’t make it because of a clear factor (poor GMAT score, poor essays, and issues with the quality of the application submitted, for example), many others aren’t really sure. Their GMAT scores are decent and within range for the consideration of ISB. Their essays (at least at first glance and in the applicants’ own opinion) don’t have much wrong with them either. Some have even done (again, in their own opinion) decently well in their interviews. Still, the question remains – what went wrong? Every year, we are approached by many applicants from the previous year who seek to know what they could have done better..ISB Application Feedback

MS vs MBA – Which is Better and Why?

by GyanOne » Wed Aug 11, 2021 11:07 pm

MS vs MBA – this is a perennial question which troubles many an applicant as he/she stands at the cusp of deciding on the right program to pursue for further career growth. Should one pursue an MBA just because it is the more popular option? Is an MS instead going to be a better alternative because it will (in most cases) be lower cost? Is pursuing an MBA after MS anyway going to be a necessity? These questions don’t have simple answers, and many applicants will try to answer them through familiarity (doing what one’s circle of influence has done) or basic research (for example, comparing only salaries for the graduating class between programs and using that as the predominant factor for decision-making).. The MBA for oil and gas professionals

by GyanOne » Fri Aug 13, 2021 11:22 pm

Over the last 3 years, the price of oil has been rather, er…..slippery. At a high of $125 as recently as 2012, oil prices fell to just $30 by the beginning of 2016. They hover at around $40 currently, but the drop has been enough to send more than OPEC into panic mode. Oil and gas professionals, many of whom saw resurgent careers and rising demand for skills even through the global financial crisis (2008-10), are today facing an uncertain future. This is exacerbated by the fact that even oil majors have chosen to simply shut down some units. The MBA for oil and gas professionals is therefore an option for such professionals that presents an opportunity to grow, gain new skills, and make the most of this slump for the industry. Indeed, many are opting for it already..The MBA for oil and gas professionals

Ivey MBA essays

by GyanOne » Mon Aug 16, 2021 12:37 am

After a number of years with the same essay set, Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario in Canada has refurbished its essay set. The essays haven’t been completely revamped, but one of them has been completely changed. Now, Ivey applicants will be facing a lot more competition and will see a lot more selectivity (not implying that the selectivity was low earlier), as more MBA applicants target top Canadian business schools for their MBA.
In the Financial Times MBA ranking, Ivey has not been ranked very favorably historically. We believe that Ivey’s low ranking is in contrast to the high quality of education and strong career opportunities it offers to its students, and consider this to be a case of an outstanding school ranked low.. Should you apply to ISB MBA Round 1 or ISB Round 2? This is a perennial question that many ISB MBA applicants ask. We have earlier tried to answer this, but perhaps that response was not comprehensive enough. Here is our perspective on this now, which will help you make a more confident decision on ISB executive MBA Admissions Round 1 vs Round 2. irst, you should ensure that you are ready to apply – you should have a decent GMAT score, have identified your recommender, and have time to dedicate to working on your application. Next, assuming you do have them, Round 1 is better. Why? The class profile is yet to be shaped, and so more chances of unconventional profiles, or profiles with some weaknesses making it..ISB Admissions Round 1 vs Round 2

PRIYANKAR BASU
Priyankar, a bright engineer from the Indian Navratna company, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), also made it to ISB as a reapplicant. A graduate from Jadavpur University, Priyankar had a strong academic background, and also had various leadership experiences under his belt. However, Priyankar needed a deeper understanding of ISB and how the school could help him achieve his dreams.
An MBA is not always the most obvious career option for public sector professionals, and post-MBA options are somewhat specialized for them too. This is where GyanOne brainstorming sessions helped Priyankar see how the tremendous value he had added for his employer could be an asset for him too. At the same time, Priyankar researched his target industry thoroughly, mapping his skills to future expectations and ISB, and created a much stronger application..ISB Reapplicant Chances

Shubham Rusia
Ok, so Shubham Rusia was a referral through a very strong network of past GyanOne clients. (it was then when we realised how well connected our clients are :)). Shubham also made it to MBA in Rotman business school, as Tushar did (both of them were friends and colleagues!). Shubham is an engineer from NIT Calicut, and he too worked in the Life Sciences practice at Deloitte.
Shubham’s forte is analytics, and his work has helped make consumer healthcare a lot more personal and effective for patients in the US. So impactful was his project at Deloitte, that it was published in the MIT Sloan Management report twice! Outside work, Shubham has been a passionate social volunteer. He loves to travel, cook, and play the harmonica!!MBA Success Stories
