Every store on Main Street in Summitville has an awning, and all of these awnings are either green or red. If the statement above is true, which one of the following must also be true?
I. Some awnings in Summitville are green.
II. If a store in Summitville does not have an awning, then it is not on Main Street.
III. If a store in Summitville has a red awning, then it is on Main Street.

A) I only

B) II only

C) I and II only

D) I and III only

E) I, II, and III

1. every store on Main Street in Summitvillie has awing.
2. all of the awing are either green or red.

which of the following MUST be true:

I: doesn't have to be true, all the awing can be red.

*note: after eliminating I, we can eliminate A, C, D, and E.

Therefore, answer is B.

II: must be true, because argument specifically stated EVERY STORE ON MAIN STREET has an awing.

III. not necessary true, because a red awing can be in other streets.

*Note: I don't think this is part of GMAT, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

How do you disprove I? The passage states the awnings are green OR red. If all the awnings were red only wouldn't the passage leave out the fact they can be one color or the other?

I agree with your explanation for II and III.

What is the OA?

Banker1:

The key word of the question is MUST be true (or always true)

So for I, the statement said some are green, but all the awing can be red. If all the awing are red, then you can't find a green awing. (disapprove the reasoning behind I). Therefore, statement I is not always true.

I hope this make sense to you. Share your thoughts.

Thanks for the explanation. Found the OA on another site, which is (B), and the explanation is almost exact to what you provided. I need to think through the details a little closer in the future (nothing I don't already know, I just need to execute... )

I must admit that B seems to be the answer. What's OA?
