Modern historians postulate that World War II may have been caused by tensions between nations, unresolved issues from World War I, effects of Great Depression, and rising Nazi factions in the 1930s.

Can you first, please, post all the options correctly. In SC GMAT it is not always about picking the correct grammatically backed options. Its too much to think of Complex Gerund, btw, what is complex gerund? What I knew is a V+ing working as noun is a gerund, what is this new complex one?

from my point of view it's a parallelism problem.

to make the sentence logically correct, I'd choose b.

However, I'm a bit worried because this solution starts with an article but the other objects do not.

Hi Mainhuna,

What I got from the SC Guide was:
i) Concrete Nouns are not parallel to Action Nouns
ii) Action Nouns and Complex Gerunds are only parallel to each other.

I am also bit confused.

Experts please help

cheers

you have to make parallel:

... may have been caused by
  • 1. tensions between nations,
  • 2. unresolved issues,
  • 3. effects of great depression,
  • 4. and the rise of Nazi factions.
