by kajcha » Mon Sep 17, 2007 9:13 am
Of the 200 members of a certain association, each member who speaks German also speaks English, and 70 of the members speak only Spanish. If no member speaks all the languages, how many of the members speak two of the three languages?

1) 60 of the members speak only English
2) 20 of the members do not speak any of the three languages

Source Unknown. and I don't know the OA so please explain your answers

to me answer is c.
unique venn-diagram cannot draw online..need to picture yourselves
but mathematically ,

e # only english
x # english+german
y# german +spansh
z # english+spansh
n # none of the languages
only germany not possible since he also know english.

y =0 since if a person knows german and spanish he also knows english but given that none of them know all 3
e+x+y+z+n+70=200
e+x+z+n=130

stat1: e = 60 ,x+z+n=70 ,still dont know x+y ..not sufficient
stat2: n=20 not sufficient
combine 1 and 2, x+y=50 sufficient..guys please correct and let me know
