374. In December of 1987 an automobile manufacturer pleaded no contest to criminal charges of odometer tampering and agreed to pay more than $16 million in civil damages for cars that were test-driven with their odometers disconnected.
(A) cars that were test-driven with their odometers disconnected
(B) cars that it had test-driven with their disconnected odometers
(C) its cars having been test-driven with disconnected odometers
(D) having test-driven cars with their odometers disconnected
(E) having cars that were test-driven with disconnected odometers

OA D
C, and E each states that the cars were driven with the disconnected odometers, i mean it does not confirm that the cars don't have their own ododmeters.. it might be possible that they have their own meters with them and were driven with disconnected meters of other cars..
In B, reference of "it" is unclear..
in A we need an action such as "having test driven.." but not a noun "cars"..
Hence D..

I feel E should be the best answer..
Preposition+noun+participle (with their odometers disconnected) is almost always wrong in the GMAT..

Somebody confirm please??

i think here in this case it is allowed if you compare choices D and E and also the above combination of participle is not always wrong.. :) please correct me if i misunderstood something..

it is logic to say "damage for cars" so A and B is left.

B is not logic because "it test ...with odemeter" mean "it use the odormeter to test"

A is correct

I also noticed the same comment in one of forums:

Preposition+noun+participle (with their odometers disconnected) is almost always wrong in the GMAT

Any idea on this structure?
