Si4S, First of all, awesome username. :) (Though I admit that I love a good nap.) Second, when you get waitlisted but receive no feedback, the kinds of things you should do to improve your chances are: retake the GMAT/GRE and report significantly higher scores (let's say 20 points or more) take supp...

Hi Asafchar! Taking an online quant course is just as fine as an in-person one. What matters is that you score a B+ or better. It's better to be able to submit a transcript rather than a certificate, although I have had clients take Coursera courses and submit them with their applications. I do beli...

Hi Enzo, This is a question I answer all the time, so I have a clear answer that works well for my clients with mediocre test scores or undergrad GPAs: Your GMAT score is going to matter more than supplemental coursework, so focus on getting your score up first. Yes, take some supplemental coursewor...

Yes, what Bhavik said! I want to reiterate how important it is to save the PDF of your application when you have the opportunity to do so. Also, save it with a descriptive name (Your Full Name_Full Name of School_Application) to make it easy to find on your computer several years later when you are ...

Hi Nakul, When your letter of recommendation writer is a newbie, you can help him/her out by creating a recommendation packet that helps them understand what the AdCom is looking for in a letter of recommendation. I write more about that here: http://www.beatthegmat.com/letter-of-recommendation-tips...

Hello! Yes, you do need to send separate score reports for the various programs within the same school. For example, here you will find the institution code for HBS MBA: http://www.hbs.edu/mba/find-answers/Pages/default.aspx But then there are two other different institution codes for the HBS DBA an...

In writing the "Why our school?" essays, here are some ways to make your essay meaningful and not like you just spent 15 minutes browsing the website and regurgitating a few phrases you stumbled upon. You could mention some (not ALL) of the following: * the clubs you want to join and why *...

I love this poll! In a recent blog post I wrote, I advised applicants to stick to 400-1000 words with 750 words being the sweet spot. I also included a lot of other helpful tips for those of you applying R2: http://theartofapplying.com/tips-for-the-new-2013-2014-hbs-essay/ Best of luck with your ess...

Hi Busytrying,

The primary GPA (Grade Point Average) that MBA Admissions Committees are interested in is your undergraduate GPA. You are going to want to submit your undergraduate GPA as a separate figure from any other GPAs. Each GPA for each degree is reported separately.

Best of luck!

Hi Sanjay, In short, yes, reapply. The fact that you got an interview is a good sign and you have a strong GMAT score. Secondly, I'd be interested to learn more about your story to see if there are some golden nuggets in there that would put you in the running for higher-ranked schools. You seem to ...

Hi Anup, A lengthy article on Poets & Quants covers this topic and I think would be very helpful: http://poetsandquants.com/2010/08/13/social-entrepreneurship-the-best-schools-programs/ You may also want to consider a joint degree with a policy school like HKS, SAIS, SIPA, Woodrow Wilson, etc. B...

Hello INSEAD hopeful! You definitely have a chance at INSEAD. I'm a joint MBA/MPA from Harvard, and have sent several clients (and one of my interns!) to INSEAD in recent years, and they're loving life. Your GMAT is not going to be a huge problem. Your GPA is on the low side but not an application k...

Hi Grace, Richard (Money9111) is DEFINITELY someone you should talk to considering he's from your alma mater and got himself into a top b-school. One of my clients with a GPA slightly lower than yours is at Cornell for business school, so there's another happy ending for a <3.0 GPA. Some tips and gu...
