formula for this

if u observe, its actually a GP (geometric Progression) except the first term therefore: 2 + (2 + 2^2 + 2^3....+ 2^8) Sum to n terms of a GP is: a[(r^n) - 1] where: a = first term; r = common factor here: a = 2 r = 2 n=8 therefore: Sum to 8 terms is: 2[(2^8)-1] Plus we have to add the extra 2 in the...

ya how did you conclude that?

What if x = -0.1...then x^2 = 0.01

therefore: x^2 + x = 0.01-0.1 = -0.09

If: y=0.4, y^2 = 0.16..therefore: -(y^2) = -0.16

Therefore: x^2+x > -(y^2)

Anyway IMO:

Answer is B

ok seriously...some of the explainations here are truly puzzling!! Stmt 1 says: |st|=t If: s=1 (Since s>0) and t = 1, it satisfies. And this means: S=T and therefore: S not greater than t Hence: 1 alone not sufficient Stmt 2 says: |st|=7 Here: S>0 so t can be +ve or -ve. Hence not enough Combining: ...

for this, maybe a more mathematical approach might help: we basicaly have to find if the discount amount sum is greater than 15% of the total original price: Let the Most expensive item cost: x Let the other 2 cost y and z: Therefore: Total original price = (x+y+z) Also, discounts: On X = 0.2x On y ...
