if x is the original price,
price after 15% discount = (x-0.15x)=68
solving for x, we get x=80
after 25% increase on the discounted price,
new price = 68+68*25/100 = 85
therefore difference in original and new price =$5
(option d)

this problem is easier to solve using venn diagram. Please refer to the attached image. from the given information D+A+X+C = P = 22 F+A+X+B = H =27 E+B+X+C = W = 28 (D+F+E) + (A+B+C) + X = 59 A+B+C=6 adding first 3 equations, (D+E+F)+2(A+B+C)+3X=77 Subtracting the above equation from the 4th equatio...

The underlined portion of the sentence should modify "equipment" and equipment cannot be "a method to protect". Hence A, B and E are out.
D is absurd - equipment cannot be - "as a protection of"
Hence C is correct.
Hope this helps.

IMO E.
the beginning of the sentence states "each year" .. hence the word "annually" is redundant. Options A, B and C are out.
between D and E, Option E is the best.
what is the OA ?

i think one way of doing it quickly is to approximate the values
sqrt(5) ~ 2.24
{1+sqrt(5)]/2 ~ 1.6
and only option A comes close. hope it helps.

i think you could solve this problem algebrically than picking the numbers. the triangle mentioned in the problem is an equvilateral triangle with side T and the area of an eq. triangle is [(square root of 3)*T^2]/4 and the area of a square with side S = S^2 given that area of eq. triangle = area of...

use of the word 'because' should be avoided when there is a comparison involved. options A, B and C are out.
between D and E, E correctly uses the pronoun 'they' to refer to courts.
OA please.

raunekk,
in the example you selected, the correct idiom is being used:
So X as to be Y
however, in the original sentence you posted, "so as to" is not being used as an idiom and hence is incorrect. hope this helps.

"twice as many as IN 1981" should have been the correct answer here. but we do not have that as an option. the only option that has "..in 1981" is option D, but i think the use of pronoun "it" makes it awkward because "it" does not have a clear antecedent. Opt...

option C is tempting but it sounds a little too extreme in its wording "...in a blended whisky is a waste..."
option D looks much better - A blended whiskey is as fine as the average quality of its components - and it stays within scope.

I think the confusing part here is that based on the context flat can be used both as an adjective (for example a flat roof , a flat tire etc) and as an adverb (for example in a flat position ) The intent of the original sentence is to convey that no elaborate closet facilities were needed because t...

This is a modifier problem. The modifying phrase A prolific architect who worked from the turn of the century until the late 1950’s , is modifying the noun Julia Morgan - who is described as the prolific architect.
