2 months and 700 + scores.. how?

by snigdha.k17 » Sat Jul 09, 2011 11:15 am
Hello all,
i have booked my GMAT date for sept 6th 2011,which leaves me with about 2 months 2 prepare.i gave the MAT prep test and got 560 quant -38 verbal -28.which is pretty bad and i was not only disappointed but it scared me too!
i really need help with the planning for studying in 2 months and scaling up my scores to around 720+
i need special help in sentence corrections.
i have MGMAT full series
and OG 12 edition
how should i go about it and what should i do differently 2 scale up my scores. i can put in 4-5 hours on weekdays and 8-10 hrs on weekends for GMAT prep.

I suggest that you first pick the low hanging fruit. I am guessing you are an Indian (Snigdha sounds like an Indian name). If I am correct, then my next assumption will also be correct - Quant will come more easily to you than verbal). Prepare quant first and aim at getting 48-49. Since you are 38 right now, I believe you will need to prepare all topics. I also think you will need to understand Data Sufficiency questions. MGMAT books will help you with that. That will get you to 45.

Then start preparing for verbal along side. I will suggest you take up e-GMAT courses for SC and CR. They helped me so I am suggesting those to you too. Come back to Quant to improve it to 48-49. For this you will need to concentrate on your weak areas. For this I suggest you purchase Grockit. It will help you hone into your weak areas.

This is just something that I would suggest at a very high level. I am also a GMAT aspirant as you are. But I have gone through quite a bit of syllabus. Well, one thing that I forgot was if you are in a position to spend a bit - you may think of purchasing Knewton course. Since you are at 38 in Quant, it will be a jump start for you. For verbal also, it will give you a good overview. But I would still suggest e-GMAT courses for verbal preparation.

Good luck. :)

I don't think joining any course is worth it. First you need to find a study partner or group. If you can't find one then join grockit. Quant skills can be rapidly improved if you work with someone else. Verbal you can do it on your own.

You have enough study material with you. Only other thing you need is OG 10th and 11th edition questions. Start with manhattan number properties. Read it thoroughly and try corresponding questions in OG. If you are doing well then you don't need any help and continue with other books. Switch between verbal and math whenever possible.

If you finish all 8 manhattan books and corresponding OG questions, that should be more than enough. Then take tests and revise those areas where you find weakness.

All the best.

Hi snigdha...dont be in a rush...8 manhattan in a month...you must grasp your basics care fully.....read manhattan SC again its a awesome book.....I would suggest get a kaplan 800 for quant as its tougher...Or manhattan is also fine.......

You must practice a lot, In DS You shound not just check answers but also u must review them.....

And SC is more like Quant , u must understand basic grammer...den u can answer every ques...let em know about ur progress..........
