Is the correct ans E?

Actually all of the options have errors in them. Doesn't seem like a very good question.

I think you are right, however anyone care to explain this sentence. I am thinking Parallelism and had it down between D and E. Both I think are horrible.

The first part of the sentence is in past tense
Hence the 2nd part cannot be in a present tense (putting)
This eliminates BCD

I am confused between A&E
May be there is comma after task, so I would go for E
Not sure but
