Since no one posted the OA, I decided to search the OA. These are the links which mention about the OA.

I also chose "A".

But the discussion of whether "a group of students who have begun" is a singular or plural is worth doing.

Will be happy is some expert could respond to this.

According to Ron in that thread:
"the use of the plural verb "have begun" is 100% proof that the noun "group" is plural in this sentence. "
"it is impossible for the SAME INSTANCE of the SAME NOUN to shift between singular and plural."
so answer has to be D
