Increases in the cost of energy, turmoil in the international money markets, and the steady erosion of the dollar have altered the investment strategies of United States corporations more radically than those of foreign corporations.

(A) altered the investment strategies of United States corporations more radically than those of
(B) altered the investment strategies of United States corporations more radically than
(C) altered the investment strategies of United States corporations more radically than they have
(D) radically altered the investment strategies of United States corporations more than
(E) radically altered the investment strategies of United States and

OA - A

we can easily reject b,c,d here
My question.
[spoiler]E is more concise than A but alters meaning, thus we go for A ???[/spoiler]

We have changed X of Y more easily than A of B.

Any one of the following is wrong if we want to maintain the meaning of the above sentence.

We have changed Y more easily than B.
We have changed Y and B.

The same logic is applied in this sentence.

The difference between A and E is one of meaning change in E. The question demonstrates a comparison between how much change occurred in the US and how much occurred for foreign corporations.

Answer choice E simply (and wrongly) gets rid of the comparison and changes the meaning from US corporations' strategies to simply those of the US. So E changes the meaning on two counts. Also (don't know if it is a mistake in copying), United States should be preceded by the article 'the'.
