B is awkward due to the latter part of the sentence "makes missing signs of incipient xxxxxxxxx".............E is properly using a modifier

A uses wrong "it" in "makes it likely to miss"
D wrong because of "misinterpreting them"
C wrong placement of modifier "especially if it has worked well in the past"

Also note that in A, who is likely to miss (signs of trouble) or misinterpret is not coming out well. There is no reason for you to interpret that an executive is likely to miss/mis-interpret.

Flaws of this kind are commonly tested in Pronouns.
