IMO C.

A - 1. word crops is misplaced. It should be after walnut.
2. Altered intent - The statement suggests that more effective pest control methods saved the citrus industry in the 1880s. The intended meaning is that newer pest control methods introduced in the 1880s saved the citrus industry.

B - Altered intent - The statement suggests that more effective pest control methods saved the citrus industry in the 1880s. The intended meaning is that newer pest control methods introduced in the 1880s saved the citrus industry.

C - Correct

D - 1. use of and is incorrect - A contrast is being shown, so but is the right conjunction.

E - 1. was destroying is incorrect tense here - had destroyed would have been better here.

Both B and C is grammetically correct. But it has to do with meaning clarity. Choice C changes the meaning of the sentence. In choice C, 'that' refers to method, which is problematic. According to C, which says method used in 1880's saved the citrus industry. But we really don't know if citrus industry saved in 1880 or later.

But, choice B maintain intended original meaning. Hence QA B
