Richard Ivey Fall 2013

by yuvi » Tue Jul 17, 2012 7:03 am
Hi,
I aspire to apply to the richard ivey school for fall 2013. here is a summary of my profile :-

Completed Engineering in electronics and communications in 2010. Got a gpa of over 8 on a scale of 10 throughout my degree (four year course)

Upon completion of my degree was recruited by Infosys as software trainee and subsequently given the role of software engineer. I have been working for the past 2 years and have varied experinces of working in and at times leading teams. I have also been praised by my on-site (offshore) clients and teams, and can get a lor from them vouching the same.

I have not taken up the gmat but took the gre instead and have a score of 313 (quant: 159, verbal 154) which according to the official ETS converter amounts to a gmat score of 620.

Now i have a work ex of over two years, decent enough exposure to different teams on both national and international levels and a low albeit minimum acceptable score. SHOULD I APPLY TO RICHARD IVEY ? or do i have no chance of admission ?

Note :- with the first round of deadlines overhead i would be highly obliged with a quick response.

Hi Yuvi,

Except for a few achievements, your profile looks like a typical IT profile. With 2 yrs of experience and a 620 ( equivalent) on GMAT, Richard Ivey will be tough.

So, we would recommend both waiting for 1 more year and taking GMAT to get a score of 680+.

I think your experience is sufficient (Richard Ivey looks for a minimum of two years), but your GRE is a little low as the average is around a 670. ETS publishes a GRE/GMAT converter but one MBA school admissions officer (different MBA school) told me that they look for a higher GRE score because they do not have a large sample size of applicants applying with GRE scores yet.

If you can boost your GRE score, I would recommend you still applying this year because you can always reapply if the program deems your work experience too light.

Hi Yuvi,

We agree with the view that your GRE score may be a spoiler. If you decide to wait for a year then try to enrich your work experience as well.
