Hi hja379!

I assume you are referring to the terminology used in the Official Guide verbal explanations. In the most general terms it is referring to concise and clear sentence structure, but in various explanations I have seen it used to describe an issue I would list under modifiers. Did you have a specific SC question that you wanted to look at regarding Rhetorical Construction?

:)

Logical predication; Rhetorical construction

Sales of wines declined in the late 1980s, but they
began to grow again after the 1991 report that linked
moderate consumption of alcohol, and particularly of
red wine, with a reduced risk of heart disease.

(A) they began to grow again after the 1991 report
that linked moderate consumption of alcohol,
and particularly of red wine, with a reduced risk
of heart disease
(B) after the 1991 report that linked a reduced risk
of heart disease with a moderate alcohol
consumption, particularly red wine, they began
growing again
(C) in a 1991 report, moderate alcohol
consumption, and particularly of red wine, which
was linked with a reduced risk of heart disease,
caused them to begin to grow again
(D) with a reduced risk of heart disease linked in
a 1991 report with moderate alcohol
consumption, in particular red wine, they
began growing again
(E) a reduced risk of heart disease linked to
moderate alcohol consumption in a 1991 report,
and in particular red wine, started them growing
again

Hi Whit,

Any tips would be greatly appreciated? And please explain 'Logical Predication' as well while you are at it. :-) Just being greedy.

Thanks.

Hi hja379,

Is that an OG Qn? I was looking for a choice w/o 'they' or 'them', since can refer back to 'sales' or 'wines'.
That being impossible, I would prefer they over them, because Sales declined and they began to grow are parallel.
Moreover, we need to check parallel structure before and after the BUT to maintain a rhetorical construction. (experts pls correct me if I am wrong)
Choice (A) seems to be the best, maintaining all of these.
