Ressources to boost my score

by superdana » Sun Apr 11, 2010 6:29 pm
I have been studying for the GMAT this last month - around 6 hours a day- daily. I'm getting a little disapoined as I'm not seeing progress in the last 5 practice tests I took. I need to do the GMAT within the next 2 weeks and I'm wondering what ressources I can use to boost up my score.

I am really baffled - When I started, I had trouble with DS. I finished all the DS problems in OG and now its better but the PS score is low!

I have used:
OG 11th(almost finished it)
Kaplan Math workbook 2010 (almost finished it)
Princeton Review 2009 (half way there)
Manhattan sentance correction (didn't like it)
Kaplan Review (doing the verbal part)

Here are my weak points:
- Word problems
- I never finish the Quant section and usually guess the last 10 questions or so. (ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO WORK FASTER?)
- Sentenece correction

Its good to see that you have identified your weak points pretty well. As far as word problems are concerned, it is not unlikely that people struggle initially to read convoluted word problems in GMAT and rephrase as equations. You just need more practice to come out of it. Have you tried MGMAT Word translations book? I guess it's worth trying out that book.

For Sc, did you mean Manhattan GMAT SC guide 4th edition? It's the best book in the market for Sentence correction. I wonder why you didn't like it. There is also another book called Powerscore SC bible. You may try that book too. Although, few people have tried that book, the majority of those people have given great feedbacks.

To improve your timing in quants or in verbal, always restrict yourself to strict time limits even while you practice questions. For instance, when you practice OG quants/verbal, comply with time limits - 1.5-2 min for PS and DS, 3-4 min for reading passages, 1.5-2 min for CR and 1.5 min for SC.

Thanks for those tips!!

I am looking for an online thing that can track my progress and tell me what to focus on instead of doing the analysis manually... any suggestions?
